Following up on my post Future of PR: Its the Metrics, Stupid, I thought I’d share an amusing anecdote.
I believe that metrics can be the "crack" of emerging bloggers. It really is quite addicting (actually, humbling at first), charting the evolution of a blog as it gains links and subscribers. Here I am speaking mainly from my personal experiences in building a following for Flack’s Revenge.
E.g., how do you know what to do next if you don’t know how people are finding your blog? Or if they are even finding your blog? Or which pages are the most popular? I use a free system called StatCounter, which seems to work pretty well.
I have found that some people (mostly non PR types) do not get the name of the blog. The Revenge part is supposed to be figurative. It is about the fact that us flacks – who traditionally have labored behind the scenes, often thanklessly, as media suck ups, let’s face it – now have access to the social media megaphone via blogging and other tools. In short, we can now speak out, and even become media critics if we so wish (not in a literal sense, though, if we want to keep our day jobs).
Anyway I share all this because it has kind of freaked me out, reviewing StatCounter’s reports about the search terms people use to find my blog.
There are some very sick types out there, searching for all kinds of revenge. Here are the top ten Revenge-related search terms that people enter before clicking on a link to this blog:
Relationship revenge
Revenge words and acronyms
The compendium of revenge tactics
Time for revenge binge
Revenge prizes
Employer revenge ideas
Revenge ideas
Ways to get revenge
Revenge web sites, emails and blogs
Tools for revenge
Well, now that I have the Revenge demographic locked up, I will need to see what other warped groups I can target. Meanwhile, don’t mess with Flack’s Revenge, as I can likely put out a hit with all the revenge-minded readers I have attracted (and will this very post SEO the blog even further for Revenge)?!!
This is very interesting, You’re a very skilled blogger. I’ve joined your rsss feed andd look foreward to seeking more of your wonderful post. Also, I have shared your websitee in my social networks!
